Origin: New Zealand. Pacific Gem has been around since 1987 but has seen a recent resurgence in use by microbreweries and homebrewers. It is a beautiful bittering hop (13-16% AA) that also possesses a good balance between Cohumulone, Myrcene, and Humulene.
Usage: Dual purpose. While it was initially introduced as a bittering hop, Pacific Gem has been used in many styles and a variety of applications, especially stouts.
Aroma & Flavor Characteristics: Pacific Gem carries an aroma of toasted oak that blends with ripe blackberries and sweet citrus.
Alpha Acid: 13 – 15%
Beta Acid: 7 – 9%
Total Oil: 1.1 – 1.3 mL/100g
